The damaged area must be sanded or rubbed with steel wool, cleaned with a damp cloth, then repaired with mineral oil or Tung Oil Finish Waterlox. Tops that have been finished with a polyurethane require the entire summit to be sanded and refinished. A top of the wood is well finished and maintained will provide years of enjoyment.
A common misconception about wood countertops is that they contain bacteria and pathogens because of their porosity.
