Peter St George UFC title shot Matt Serra is out with an injury to Dec. 29 fight against Matt Hughes (the most dominant welterweight in UFC history).
Hughes is a machine. He won 41 fights with the same wrestling style over his career that says something for the guy. Most fighters with a style took him aside early in their career, but Matt has proven he can come almost everyone. It is a strong, hard working, small scale farming difficult with a "must win" mentality. And all power to him! It was a ton of fans before the UFC Ultimate Fighter series, where he coached and was released as arrogant and a bully. Call what you will, everyone with wins against BJ Penn, Carlos Newton, Georges St-Pierre and Hayato Sakurai is a machine. Whatever happens in the future, he is a champion and a role model for MMA fighters. His work ethic and his ability to find a way to win is incredible and as a competitor you need to respect the guy.
However ..
He also lost against BJ and GSP and victory against Newton, well, it's hard to call, as he slept in the same time, he slammed Carlos on the carpet. This victory could be argued either.
In no way shape or do I take away from his abilities because I have observed since the beginning of his career and all I can say is "Wow", but the power of the media beat . When a guy wins 41 fights most of them are televised it hurts. Your style is known and your best moves that you use to win are visible. Enter BJ Penn and George St. Pierre.
BJ beat him the first time they fought (and I was there!). BJ had lost the title race at 155 pounds to Jens Pulver. It has been checked. So, BJ, BJ being said that I spend in the weight class to win the £ 170. Unheard of at the time. Hughes called it a lack of respect for her. But BJ has been making noise Hughes with a punch to the head while he was upstairs, then seized from behind in a rear naked choke. Matt got out, but it was still dummied punch and had to type. Wow. NO ONE saw this coming. remark, I am a photo with BJ that night was extraordinary. This was before UFC got to the point where it was today. Me and a friend met outside the Mandalay Bay by himself waiting for a taxi. How times have changed. UFC BJ eventually left due to unknown reason. "A lot of issues with himself and the UFC and the title left me. Hughes he resumed thereafter.
A top corner and George St. Pierre is tearing of the competition and gets a title fight. GSP dominated the first 2:55 of the fight against Hughes. But GSP frees an arm and Matt (when did he learn BJJ?) Grab a bar arm and taps GSP with 1 second left in the first round. It is a mistake on the part of GSP and especially his corner. No way would he run like that. Simply, he has lost.
Rematch.
Guess who was there! George checks the fight together. In answer to everything Matt throws at him. But that's where the idea of televised fight between GSP involved knew Matt had every move of the study the video and it was obvious. He controlled the entire fight and beat him 3 times in my opinion. 1 - leg kick that Matt has been called a kick in the groin and got a break 2) The end of round 1 Matt is out, but saved by the bell 3) GSP won the TKO. WOW
GSP dominates. Now he has the huge crowd support.
Enter Matt Serra.
Always loved, but never thought he would do the same. Low and behold, he wins the series Ultimate Fighter "has been". Turned out to be a teammate and a great coach. Good for him. Bravo Serra. He won the series and a chance at GSP. I missed the fight aginst GSP I was in Thailand, but was surprised when I heard he won by TKO. Congratulations to millionaires who gambled on him cause the odds were nuts!
Entry Policy. GSP has earned a title fight Immediate rematch. But Dana White wrapped Mat.
