How my dog used to nail the mill? My mother and I bought a dremel grinder that we learned from our vet would be a safer alternative and comfortable for our dog nail trimming with a pair of guillotine. The thing is, she was a little concerned with it. How can I make it a little more comfortable with the sound / look to have around her?
You'll have to take it slow ... holding it down and forcing it will only trauma.
You can start by leaving the dremel out, and let him come sniff around and see that it is not bad. Maybe give him treats when she does investigate.
Once she has the habit, then try turning it on and sit down so she could get used to noise.
You can also practice handling his feet a lot with your hands, not the Dremel yet.
After she is good with you handling his feet, then maybe try to touch the Dremel to its claws when he is off.
Once she gets used to you handling his feet and hear the dremel turned on, try a dremel shoe for just one second, then let go and give him a treat.
Just keep the constitution.
Remember to keep your practice sessions short, and give lots of treats / praise.
A good thing to remember is that when you start to dremel her nails is not touching the dremel on the nail for a second time. It heats very quickly and hurt him.
Here is a good site on your nails dremeling dog http://homepages.udayton.edu/ merensjp ~ / d ...
Edit: In the meantime, if his claws are too long, you can try to make him play on the floor some to wear them down. Just keep an eye on his rug to ensure they do not get worn out and bleeding.
Turn on the lowest speed possible and rub against it can go to feel the vibrations. When she moved to try grinding the nails.
