Lipstick can be expensive and their claims can be misleading. The "lipstick of a day" can make you poorer by anything between five hundred to Fourteen hundred rupees, but all will last eight hours. Consumer Voice bought 10 lipsticks a day of major brands and to test the user. The results have been disappointing. Five of the ten brands tested lasted almost four hours. Even with an expensive product, the quality of lipstick left much to be desired. Users complained of some lipsticks that feel sticky and stains left on coffee cups. We have also noticed that lipstick does not give good value for money in terms of quantity. The Revlon Lip Color Color Sheer Overtime did not last even ten requests by the user.

Overall, most of the "day" lipsticks do not give much for consumers, certainly not when compared to their high price performance. However, all users of lipstick have been unhappy with the brands they use. Brands like Chanel and Maybelline have given good scores out of the mouth, leaving the skin hydrated and has a pleasant fragrance.

Some lipsticks are a bit difficult to use for women who are short of time. Lipsticks which come in two containers (color and brightness) will need time to apply more than those from a single container and are a hassle to carry.

How we test

Consumer Voice has made a preliminary market research and chose the ten best-selling brands in the category as "long term". All brands have been selected so as to "Matt", "semi-dull" and "bright" finish. Lipsticks were then distributed to users who have been informed of the purpose of the survey and explained how frequently to use lipstick. Users have continued to eat and drink as usual. Users filled in their responses to a questionnaire used daily and lipstick for a maximum of 10 days.
