Roller ColorGirls Roller Derby help the community

Despite a strong wind that threatened to take our check-in tents there, we helped the YWCA staff and volunteers set up the station in the shoe, where the male participants would be able to choose women's shoes with the right color, style and shape for the walk. From SJSU athletes in San Jose firefighters, police and ambulance, the marchers SVRG girls help them choose mules, pumps, stilettos and size. We have also fitted tees because, if their flashy heels did not give them as supporters of the YWCA.

When it came time for the walk to begin with, we packed our skates and came in mid-mile. Our coordinators YWCA we matched perfectly with our next role: providing water and bandages for the participants. After all, who knows more about blisters rollergirl? We handed out water to walkers, some fast and some stumbling blocks, and encouraged them as they passed.

Once the crowd passed our station, we packed and followed the marchers high heels for the California Theatre in downtown San Jose, where participants and sponsors were rewarded with prizes for fundraising and refreshments.

Overall it was a great afternoon, a pleasant and fun way to educate the community to some very serious problems. Next year we hope to encourage our own SVRG male referees as they complete their first mile in our shoes.
